Topic: Turn signal style hood detail survey - Collecting data

^{Guess we can do a survey on the hood and the bulb socket detail if you want to chase this one. Don't have pictures of every bottom of the hood but thing I can contribute a few data points}
Moving Jeff's suggestion forward, why don't we do this?  Differences between plants and over time...

Unfortunately my junk yard pics don't have this detail - need to make a road trip.

If I recall correctly, there has been discussion on plastic vs. metal sockets, gaffing tap to retain, near flat clips with screw to help keep socket in place.  May also be differences in the wiring harness including grounding details.

I'll start it. Here is a picture of my unrestored 67 Mustang Coupe, Built April 1967 at San Jose. It has been in in my possession since 1979, and my grandparents bought new. My grandparents did not do anything to the Mustang except to drive it and basic maintaince. I have done all the cleaning to it, so I know this is the way the lamps were shipped from Ford.

The overall picture will show the turn signal wiring routing

So the questions are

1- Date and Plant?
2- Metal or plastic bulb holders/sockets?
3- Tape over ?
4- Flat clip and screw retainer?

Are we doing/focusing on just 67's

Jeff, to be selfish, of course all I need is based on my footer .  But to be helpful to the community at large it would be good for everyone to at least provide some examples of changes throughout the 67-68 range and discuss them.  I suspect that this topic could be a chapter in a large book you could write, and am not suggesting that type of time committment.  As in many other posts, it would be good to convey the types of changes, some differences between plants, so that the readers are aware that there is not one size fits all.  The type of thing you do so well.

I'm thinking:

1- Date and Plant? Yes
2- Metal or plastic bulb holders/sockets? Yes
3- Tape over? Yes
4- Flat clip and screw retainer? Yes
5- Just 67? No - 67 and 68 per discussion above
6- Holes in hood for wire harness routing, along with wire retaining clips - discussed in another thread

That is what the site is for and what the internet has made possible for us. SO the survey is open - respondents keep inside the lines

6 Questions (well maybe #7 for some respondents) - the hood needs to be original to the car to count (CHECK the date code and compare it to other removable sheet metal or include the date as #7). OF course this is not something I can include when using my photo data base. The more straight forward direct findings the easier it will be to compile the info in an easy to read pattern and patterns will almost always develop fairly quickly as we collect info

5- Holes in hood for wire harness routing?
6- Type and style of wire retaining clips?
7- Hood stamping date?

a) This is the first time I've read this thread, so forgive the late contribution.
b) My hood is a bit of a mess, but I believe the components to be original to the car.

My car is a '68 fastback, built in SJ on 7 Feb 1968 (actual). The car was repainted but has the original special paint under the red, so I know the hood and the turn signal housings are original. The reflectors and bulb sockets appear to be original, but I cannot say with 100% certainty. The reflectors have holes for clip screws, but I can't tell from my photos if the holes ever has screws in them (the car is a couple hundred miles away so I can't verify at this time). No clips or tape present. The bulb sockets and reflectors are metal. I don't have any photos of the wiring routing, but as you can see the wires were replaced with speaker wire at some point.

I have a donor hood from another '68 that is untouched, with all the original wiring clips, etc. I could add it to the discussion, but I do not not have any info on the car it came from. Should I post pics in this thread?

As allways not 100% sure it is all original, because I do not know what previous owners has done to it.
But in this case I guess not so many

I was asking similar questions last week with about the sam results 

So my waking this older thread up your going to get responses here rather than to you more recent post  Believe your request only focused on the wire loom part of the picture

Think the span of the survey is too large ( 24 months and three different plants) since this should produce all kinds of different patterns and sub patterns that will get lost in the collection

Some of these pictures show what appears to be a radio noise suppressor mounted  between the two louvers.  Can some one enlighten me?  I've never seen this before, and I have owned two 1967 and two 1968 Mustangs.
