Sorry - no help here. Have seen allot of these but have not been able to establish a pattern. Application started in 68 and was carried through at least the early 70's with this location and pattern. Have other examples where they have identifiers other than this. Seems IMHO that its pretty large for an inspector or assembler mark. Thanks for sharing - another one for the files.
This was uncovered when I cleaned the grime off my diff. It's on the bottom of the housing.Car is a 68 J Code Coupe Jan 68 built in SJ with 3.00 gears. It is original to the car.Is it just an identifier for the inspector or does it have some other significance?
Those are basically the same markings on the rear end in the Shelby we just did!

Could it maybe be a code from manufacturing and painting just the housings? Cause the two cars were made on opposite sides of the country!
