Finished uni body repair and I'm just about ready to apply seam sealer and sound deadener in the trunk of my January 20, 1966 Metuchen hardtop.  I plan on applying Spectrum Sludge using Jeff's write up as a guide on the inside of my quarter panels.  Does anyone have any pictures of typical application of deadener and seamsealer for this plant/date that I can use as a guide to get this right?  Thanks as always for all your invaluable advice and info!

Guys,
Is this very light application of body color over sound deadener typical of what you have seen for Jan Metuchen?  I have seen other time frames/plants with much heavier color over deadener.
Thanks,
Tom

Think you will find that allot of it wears away with time. Consider this (as described by the workers)

Remember that these are the old high pressure high volumn guns used in the 60's - lots of paint and lots of overspray normally

The painter passes the spray gun (flowing) around the opening of the wheelwell to insure a nice coat all the way around the lip.

Then he passes the flowing gun over the quarter panel front to rear - rear to front applying a nice even coat never letting off of the trigger (on and off can produce thin spots or heavy blotches) as he travels over the wheel opening. All that paint and overspray has to go into the wheelwell and on to something. Generally (from the original cars I've seen) the paint job on the exposed frame rail in the opening can be as nice as the exterior panels - of course where there is not a glob of sound deadener being painted over ;)

From a later car (approx mid March) but this is normally what you find - and even in this case you can see the wear and tear the years have taken on the surface
