Topic: 351-4V vs. 351-CJ air cleaner lid decal

This is related to an old post I started. The question has been which decal is correct for 72 Q code 351C. The CJ decal fits the lid properly the 351-4V does not. It would seem the CJ is correct as all information I have indicates the air cleaner assembly is correct. The 351-4V decal seems to be for a smaller diameter lid or at least the inner flat ring. I suppose it could be an error by the manufacturer but it seems unlikely. Anyone with additional information please share it with me. Chuck

  I know that one of the shop had a question about the 4V decals since they had two reproduction both with different print details and each had a different circumference. Believe the issue may be a poor reproduction - would not be the first one

If all 1972 351-4V engines were Q codes, aren't they all 351CJ's?
Why would some of them be stickered differently?

Yes they are all "CJs". The reasons why Ford used different decals is open to speculation. If there is a definitive reason I'm unaware of it. Insurance costs, gas crunch at the time, a movement away from "high performance", early case of political correctness for California cars?? Chuck

The whole CJ non CJ 351 one thing as just been a confusing issue through the years as mentioned. Some Ford documents list it one way while another the other. Added allot to muddy the waters and discussions over the years.

I bought a 72 Q code Mach One in 1979 from the original owner. He stated the only thing not original was the clutch.  It failed two weeks after he brought it home.

I distinctly recall opening the hood and seeing a chrome lid with 351CJ on the decal.  I had never heard of the 351 CJ, but I figured Cobra Jet was good.

Just brought home a Q code barn find to restore. I’m digging through all these old posts. Thought this might be valuable
