Smog pump bearing...
« on: July 15, 2012, 02:54:21 AM »
Restoring a 67 or 68 smog pump.  Got it all apart and trying to determine the correct bearing that press fits into the face of the housing.  The old one is not in great shape and I think it says "2303 Semi Sealed" (very tiny writing).

Anyone know the correct part?  Looked on Timkin's site and did not see a 2303...

And should the cast face part be natural or semi-gloss-black?

Can't help with the bearing but will check the rebuild instructions to see if its mentioned there when I return

As for the cast rear cover - semi-gloss black with nautral machined surfaces

Actually its a 71 casting date, found after a bit more clean up..

Came out of a 67, obvioulsy swapped once-upon-a-time, still interested in the right bearing.

You might want to make sure you have the correct style thermactor pump for your project . A 67 style thermactor pump would not be correct for a 68-70 and vs versa.I Just thought I would mention it since you mentioned the dates . Something also to keep in mind is that 67 style pumps are in far less demand compared to 68-70 pumps to enthusiests .It sounds like you have the better of the two if you were wanting to fix up to resell it.

Its a spare that was going to the bin I was given, being me I decided to take it apart to see how it works, and restore it... it will them go on the shelf, not in a car.... hate seeing serviceable parts tossed when a few hours of fiddling can make 'em near new again.... or at lest very presentable and useable!

So if anyone knows where I can get that bearing it can all go back together again.... as ccrrrruuunnnhh....sccreeeee.....chunka-chunka.... don't seem like normal noises a bearing shuld make when rotating it by hand!  ::)
