Topic: Canadian 68 1/2 r code smog exempt ?

I know this is a controversial subject, but I am restoring a 68 1/2 r code coupe for the original owner, he swears the car never had smog on it from new and I believe him 
unfortunately I don't have the build sheet, this car was ordered and shipped to Canada. I've heard more than once that Canadian cars didn't have smog.
so my question is  to the judges out there, what kind of deduction if any for not having smog set up on the car, when being presented for judging ?

Get a Marti report http://www.martiauto.com/ for this car.

I have the marti report, there is nothing on it about smog and from from what I understand it would have been noted on the build sheet.

I've been following that link,  but I would like to hear some of the judges comments, so I know what to expect come judgement day.

If I was judging and came across a out of the ordinary situation like this it would be reasonable to expect some type of factory documentation to support the smog delete configuration. If not on the Marti maybe on the build sheet . It would be logical to expect that the smog delete would be mentioned someplace since the normal way was for it to be installed. If there was no reasonable proof to support the missing components the deductions would be the maximum amount for that area. Don't ask what that is I don't have them committed to memory but it is significant.

Can't say for 68.5 R codes specifically, but I have seen 1968 S code cars with Canadian DSO's that say 'Canadian Non-Emission System' and 'Non-Emission System' on Marti Reports.

I also have noted (from Marti Reports, Canada DSO's again) 'Non-Emission System' on cars that normally would have had IMCO smog systems. On one of my Forums, someone from Canada had posted that 1968 Fords were still using 1967 US style open emissions systems. This information supposedly came from Canadian version Ford shop manuals in 1968.

Just to add to the discussion though this will not prove that this particular was built with them  - NHRA (National Hot Rod Assoc. = drag racing organization) for many years allowed for a Canadian head to be used on 428CJ Stock and Super Stock cars. Never seen one in person but these may have been better heads due to the lack of the Thermactor bump and extra compression area that the Thermactor heads would have been equipped with

Anecdotal...  and wrong year and plant ... but I owned a 1969 Mach I R code 428 CJ ordered at a Vancouver, B.C. dealership (Canada - Pacific) built in Dearborn. It was equiped with thermactor smog.
