69 Dearborn Head light wiring
« on: May 04, 2012, 09:29:50 AM »
Does anybody have a photo showing the routing of the wiring to the head lamps, marker lights and parking lights.  I'm looking for routing and clip locations, the assembly manual is really hard to read, and most of the original setup was long gone.

Thank you,

David,

I've been struggling with this also.  You're right, the assembly manual is impossible to read.  I've got a bunch of AMK wiring clips, but no idea where they're supposed to go!

Like to be of some help with the wiring and clips but that is a very tough location for photos.  The ' 1969 Mustang Wiring Diagram Manual ' does show the routing but does not show any attachments.  All along the lower radiator support you will find a series of holes, about 3/16", running horizontally.  The harness clips go into these holes.  My car has four clips / two on each side of the hood latch support.  The side marker clip location as shown in the Fuller photo just doesn't seem right.  I have my clips mounted to the forward mud shield lower hex head bolt.   Brian.  Metuchen 69 Mach 1

I agree this is one of those ugly places that makes a photo almost impossible, you can barely work in their and I have small hands.  I came to this conlusion after working out the routing from the assembly manual.  I think have it correct I will try to post some photos and see what people think.

Thanks again everybody!

This may help to start things

Marker light retaining bracket

Marker light wire tied to bumper arm & routing for turn lamp- that wire has a pink staple around the wires to hold them together (sdhown porly in pic)

Small looms attach at the bottom corner of the #1 cross member - one slip dislodged from mounting hole

Overhead shot of the general area

Headlight short looms hangs from headlight bucket (round black plastic loop holes it to the assy)

Jeff, great photos this helps alot, I was pretty close, need to correct a few things.  I was not aware of the clip at the marker light, but see it is available at NPD.  I saw the note about the strap in the assembly manual but wasn't sure what it was connected to, the diagram is tough to read. Thanks again everybody for the responses and help, the photos of these unmolested cars is a real bonus.

Glad to help - and as always check what the assembly manuals show against good original cars from the same plant and time period as the car your working on ;)

I have removed the plastic clips from the side marker light studs on two original "junkyard" Dearborn cars, and both were installed as shown in Jeff's picture and as illustrated on the Scott Fuller website.  I mention this because the original post appears to pertain to a Dearborn car and the pictures of the Metuchen car differ.

Hi Guys
ON THIS - I had wire ties on the front of my 4/21/69 SJ built car.  BUT it was missing the lower valance !

So would this plant, that time frame use the clips?

Just as a confirmation the pics in my post are from Dearborn cars

Yes we have to be careful IMHO since we have found many of these little details to be different from plant to plant.

Note - did modify the title to reflect the original request
