1969 Large female bullet plug at VR?
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:12:44 PM »
I've had the opportunity to refurbish a couple of 69 headlight harnesses, and I ran across something unusual and is not documented in the various schematics.  There is a female bullet plug coming off of the VR with green/red wire (904); this plug is oversized much like the PRDNL plug at the firewall.  The VR has a second female bullet plug with yellow wire for the radio suppression capacitor.  Does anyone know what the other female bullet plug (green/red) may be used for?

I doubt it, as that line is only hot when the key is in the RUN position.

Are you talking about the convertible top connector?

I traced the circuit in the 69 Wiring Assembly Manual (the drawing is in poor condition) and it appears to be the run circuit. It may be for an electric choke in that case.

That would make sense: it's only active when the key is in the RUN position.  I couldn't find it in any schematics, but you apparently found it in a drawing.  Thanks!

Now then...what engines/cars got electric chokes in 1969?

Midlife, my 69 has a radio supressor (I think) plugged in there.

Radio suppressor should plug into the yellow wire with female bullet; some voltage regulators have a second female bullet with a green/red wire with a much larger outer diameter female plug.  It's the latter plug that puzzled me.
