66 GT350 oil cap
« on: March 27, 2012, 06:25:11 PM »
What is the correct oil cap for an early 66 GT350 (#455 4spd car)?
With breather hose or without breather hose?  If with breather hose where does the hose connect to the intake manifold and what does the fitting look like?

Chrome FoMoCo marked oil cap with a breather hose which is connected to the bottom of the HiPo air cleaner.
This is placed on the driver side. On the passenger side you should have a PCV valve in the valve cover which has a hose
connected to a fitting on the COBRA intake manifold.

My air cleaner assembly does not have a provision in the base to attach the hose.
Was the configuration that Texas Swede mentioned the only possibility?
I thought my air cleaner assembly was original, maybe not?
Any differences there for automatic vs 4spd cars?

The closed emission air cleaner assembly with the provision in the base for a emission hose was the only thing that was offered on 65/66 GT350. The open emission base on your car now is a replacement. It may or may not be a reproduction but a stamped date code would go a long ways in proving it's authenticity at least from a historical aspect . I have actually seen known authentic bases with no date codes but that is a a subject for another thread. A dated authentic open emission aircleaner base on your car now however would not change the fact that 65/66 GT350's came with the closed emission base from Ford/SA originally.

The air cleaner assembly on the car now must have been replaced then.
I spoke to the owner that had the car in the late 60's and he told me that someone stole the carburetor off of the car when he had it parked in a parking lot.  He didn't say anything about the air cleaner but maybe they took that too.  He replaced the carb with an "over the counter" holley replacement.

Thanks, just want to confirm what's correct.

Take a look at the air cleaner base here in my Blog Post.

I'll also mention that your car should have the oil cap mentioned with the FoMoCo oval script.  I mention this, because there is one with the rectangular FoMoCo logo also.
