66 GT350 header gaskets
« on: March 17, 2012, 11:05:18 AM »
What did the original gaskets (to heads) look like for the headers for 1966?  Silver?  I assume they put gaskets on them unlike stock manifolds?

Dan ,the current consensus of opinion is white  . The vintage catalog pictures of the tri y's sold separately although black and white appear to confirm that also.

Where can I find white?  I have only seen gray and metal silver.  Are they like the standard small block gaskets?

Dan,I haven't tried to source any recently but typically white was all you could find . Maybe my white and your gray are the same ;) . The differences seem to be the cutout of the material. If you can dig up the catalog photos online someplace to give the correct shape to look for or modify a existing set would be best. I don't have any handy or I would post.

Thanks.

Also wondering what the finish should be on the plates and small pipe section that bolts to the headers?  Just before the H pipe.

I have seen them both painted black and unpainted. I would paint them black if it were my car from a maintenance stand point.Although the picture Bo posted shows a darker color then i am used to seeing that  picture would be provenance for a darker gasket too. The shape of the gasket in the picture is what you want to replicate also.

+1 Just white like the typical header gaskets of the period. Can be hard to find  for some now a days
