Topic: 8" differential color

Guys,
Just back from my local PPG dealer.  Asked them to tint DP74 to match a sample of the red oxide on my undercarriage.  they told me they can't tint it without me buying a quart of black epoxy   .  Luckily a buddy of mine has some DP90 that i can use to tint it myself. 

My question is: I also need to shoot my 8" differential.  Before i tint my DP74, is the differential color close to the undercarriage tint or would it have been untinted DP74, or some different shade of tinted DP74?

I've found that original differentials had a bit more of a reddish tint to them than dp74 right out of the can.  I have a quart of candy apple red acrylic enamel that I put a little dab in with dp74.  For as little as you need to spray the differential, you could play around with paint in a mixing cup to get it right.

Thanks Charles.  Have you had any trouble tinting DP74 with acrylic enamel.  Counter man at my paint supply store was leery of mixing it with anything other than epoxy?

Here's a suggestion...
Get some PPG "Spray Out Cards" from your PPG Jobber.

Mix whatever you want to ...(Tempra-Paint...Play-Dough...whatever) until you get a Spray-Out Card coated with a couple of coats of the color you want.
Then take that card to your jobber and have him "shoot it" with their X-Rite Profit tm  machine and it will spit out a mixing formula for him to use to create the exact color you need.

That's what I did with my interior blue metallic.

For something like a differential, I wouldn't worry about it.  Now for an exterior topcoat, heck no!

Depends on the undercarriage color since they vary. IMHO the third member color is less muddy looking than the floors, typically, and at least as glossy. Likely a by product of the epoxy paint use

Have used (many times) exterior color toners to correct the color of DP74 and never had any problem
