69 Tire Pressure Decal - Running Change
« on: March 11, 2012, 08:34:55 PM »
This came up about 10 plus years ago so I've been kind of following these.

Figured I would post what I've got so far. Hope sharing will help owners of cars put back the original decals rather than the "expected" one on concours cars. Without this I would guess some would get a little push back with a D0 decal on a 69 car ;)

Hope this helps some of you - Only challenge now is getting some of these reproduced

1- Appears to be at least four different designs used during the production year

C9AZ-A

C9AZ-B

D0ZA-C Why is one attached to the passenger door?  Not sure but for the record this is from 9T03F13590x

"Typical" location

D0ZA-D released around the same time as the Boss's started production

A list of the cars found so far with each difference decal

Jeff
My  SportsRoof (9R175489) built May 8 has the last D0 tire pressure decal.

Looks like I was correct in putting the second decal on the Grande (9R134029).

My Dearborn convertible (9F205163) built 6/04/69 had the D0ZA-1532-D decal.
Interesting thread, I did not know there were variations.

Thanks for posting this thread, Jeff. I ordered the correct decal for my car today.  I know this is old hat to some of you, but for those of us who don't know, stuff like this is very helpful. Even though I've owned my car since 1974,  I would have blindly used the wrong decal from my one-size-fits-all decal kit and never bothered to look closely enough to know it was incorrect.

Your welcome but don't assume any of this gets "old hat" since most of us have learned that there is always something new around the corner and there is so much that has not been studied. IMHO these are the sort of details (identifiable patterns) that, if applied, keep all the car from being cookie cutters of one another. At the same time posting and discussing them help both the owners and the judges ;)

Jeff,
Thank you very much for this. I was getting ready to use the C9 tire decal on my 1969 1/2 BOSS 302 217159, however this information tells me that most likely I needed to have the D0-D tire decal. This was backed up by my memory of the original tire decal having a line with the 302 HO on it but I didn't see any C9 decals with that line.

Your welcome John. Noticed this decades ago then like many things just started collecting data points to give us what we have today with solid evidence of these changes and the different versions.  To me this just adds to make a car a better representation of how the cars were built and that they are not all cookie cutter cars we sometimes see at shows or where ever
