Topic: Correct tires

My Marti calls out 6.95 X 14-4 Ply Rated Tires. March 22 1968 San Jose build. Would White Wall be the only option? and would Power Cushion be the only option or possibly a non WW and Firestone Deluxe Champions? Any help would be appreciated also will be in need of a set of suitable tires for this car if anyone has them available for sale.

There is a gentleman from NY who has a low milage original 68 built in San Jose who frequesnts this site on occasion. His name is possibly Duffy? He knows about the tire that you seek. He has managed to find a couple over the years. Not sure but I've only run across Deluxe Champions in F70-14. That would be most likely for a GT.

Did the early cars (65/66) use the 6.95 x 14?

Someone out there must have seen an original spare in the trunk.

Yes, the std. tire for 65-66 was the 6.95x14.  It was typically a 4 ply tire, either black or white wall.  Most typical brand was Firestone.

I guess Firstone would be correct for 68 too.  At least it wouldn't be wrong.

Probably any vintage 6.95 x 14 (Firestone or Goodyear) would be correct for 68....rigtht?

The Marti reports I have specifically list "white sidewall tires" if so equipped, nothing about the sidewalls if not.

I think (as mentioned) that if it was white side walls the Marti report would call it out

Checked but I don't have allot of reference pictures of original spare.

Thanks for the replys. I got lucky by calling the prior owner. Apparently just before picking up the car he placed the spare on the left front as the later replaced tire was not holding air. The spare has now unfortunately been mounted but it is the original and was only rolled on and off the trailer. The condition of the rim is exceptional with the Green inspection marks on the inside and just a rub through on the White painted rim where the jack handle seated. The tire is a Firestone Dlx Champion no WW which matches the Marti. Left front tire in this pic. Today is start up for the first time in 25 years. The underside is amazing and the exterior is very decent for 44 years of age. Other than the cloth seat inserts and dealer installed A/C it is a true survivor.

That car look very close to one we saw at MCA a couple years back - Only exterior difference was that the owner got the dealer to throw in (sure they might have paid for them) full hubcaps on the dog dish (painted) wheels.
