What was the purpose of the 4 inch pieces of rubber hose that were installed on the outer front bumper brackets??

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same pieces, but I think we might be.  I was looking in the '69 body assembly manual the other day, and I noticed an illustration showing some kind of rubber insulator mounted to the bumper brackets.  I recently blasted and painted my original bumper brackets, and whatever rubber was originally there was long gone.

It'd be nice to have a picture of an original, or some ideas of how to recreate what was there.  Like you said, I really don't understand what the insulator was supposed to insulate from.
Too much junk, too little time.

they were on other year mustangs also and if you look there is a weld spot on bumper rod end and the rubber was split and slide over rod to keep from rubbing paint on valance panel & used ones (if theyare still there anyway) will have cut marks from rubbing panel. These are much easy to find verses the rubber strip that hooks on top bumper end on other main bars to keep stoneguard from rubbing on arms as fall off very easy & are very hard to find .

Is there a preferred/accepted way to replace these? Like many, mine are long gone. Are the '67-'68 repops appropriate for '69? Frankly, the repops look like simple chunks of heater hose -- in fact, on one vendor's site, you can clearly see the words "heater hose" printed on them. :D I'll probably just go with home-made approximations until something better comes along (used or quality repop) would that be frowned upon at a judged event?

Although similar in appearance 5/8 heater hose is a different diameter. Bob

You can find this ribbed hose on fastback vent drain hose before 69.
