Topic: Flange Bushing For Fastback Deck Lid

A while back there was a discussion thread regarding the plastic sleeve that goes through the hinge support on the passenger side to support the torsion rod on the fastback deck lid.  I believe the part is called a plastic flange bushing with an ID of 3/8". Since I was not able to locate one that look reasonably close in appearance to disintegrated one that I pulled out, I had to result to other means. I recently went to ACE Hardware (yes, Ace is the place!) and found nylon washers in the correct color, thickness and diameter.  I then found some plastic tubing, cut to length and then glued together.  When assembled and inserted onto the car, it's hard to tell from the outside that it's not original - except that it looks new.  I hope this may help someone else in the future.

Cool, thanks for sharing.  Remember that the bushing would have paint on it since it was installed before the car was sprayed.

This is the type of item that I was referring to, it needs to be added to the "Why Doesn't Somebody - " posts. I haven't found any reference to this part but it may be part of the hinge assembly, eg, came with the hinge.

I don't recall that flange on my 66 (just looked---mine is missing).  I thought you were referring to a retaining "axle clip" that looked more like a hat that prevented the torsion bar from being removed from the lever arm.  That little piece is not reproduced and is a bugger to find!

I thought AMK had something similar in their catalog?

Not all 66 fastbacks had this bushing.  Some cars appear to have a smaller hole in the hinge and would not even accommodate a bushing.  I have observed this change happening in late '65, but I am always interested in more evidence.

My San Jose May 65 build Fastback - no bushing; my San Jose Oct 65 build Fastback - no bushing; 6S1232 Feb 66 build - no bushing. I can't answer if the hinges on my 65 or the Shelby are factory supplied without the bushing.

My car, May 65, does not have a bushing.  If it did have one it was a mighty tight fit.  Sheet metal date stamp in that corner is 4 20 D2.  Looks like quite a parlor trick to get the rod in there as well.  Brian

The flange may well have been installed first on the torsion rod, before it was installed in the deck lid, then slid into place.  Whaddya think?

Per the 1965 Mustang Body Assembly manual (AM0006), pg 62 (N5-8907), the part number for the bushing is C5ZB-63448A04-A. That number does not appear in the Ford Car Parts book in either the illustration section or the full part number listing section.

It was one of 500 or so links from the Yahoo advanced search function exact phrase using "nylon flanged bushings".
I don't have all the dimensions so somebody needs to do some measuring.
