66 GT350 engine block plate

What should the finish be on the engine block plate be for a 4 speed car? 
I have only seen them natural steel but recently saw a pic of a K code 4 spd car and the plate was painted black.  I am talking about the plate between the engine block and the bell housing, 1 piece no inspection cover.
Were they ever painted black?

They are natural with engine color overspray so if it were a 65 black engine it would be natural with black overspray

Most of the 65-66 ones I've seen probably had a little more liberal coating of paint rather than simply over-spray.  They tried not to spray paint in the area where the starter attaches... I guess for grounding purposes.

Hope this helps illustrate what is being described

As always other examples may be more or less paint. You can make out on the upper part of where the starter attaches that there was blue paint transfer to the starter that was removed from the plate when the starter was removed



Remember that the outer edge of the plate would also receive paint on it as paint was being applied to the block in those areas also

Who would have installed the all aluminum BW T-10? 
SA or Ford? 
If it was not installed by Ford, the bell housing would still be the Ford bell and would also have the over spray from the engine painting.  Correct?

The trans was installed on the Ford line. I havn't seen the overspray on the aluminum bell housing like I typically see on the big block cast iron bell housing. Bob

Since the flywheel was installed before painting the engine plate would have been installed and painted - Trans was not even in the smae building (maybe not even the same zip code) at the time ;)
