1966 Build Sheet help
« on: January 20, 2012, 05:26:03 PM »
Newbie here folks.  I hope someone out there can help me out with a few blanks. The original build sheet, like so many, simply does not exist. I thought it would be cool to re-create mine so I’ve purchased a reproduction copy from Jim Osborn Reproductions. Most of my build sheet is easy enough to decode after spending some time on this and other websites searching and finding what the codes mean and matching them to what’s in or on my GT.

VIN: 6R07A______
Misc. door code data: 65B T 65 09J 51 1 5

Here is where I stand and the blanks that I cannot figure out:
Top line moving left to right:
ROT: I can really put any number in here as it’s impossible to know what number my car was going down the line in September 1965 right?
Serial Number: self explanatory.
Warranty Plate Code: 65B
I.B Color Code. is this for the interior color?
Paint B & T: T (candyapple red)
Trim: 65 (red crinkle, pony)
Trim “DEV”. What’s this for?
Order Type: 1 (standard order)
Sched Date: 09J (9/9/65)
Region District. R (since my car was made in San Jose)
DSO: 51 (Denver)

Second line:
Car Line: Z (Mustang)
Mov /Col. 3 G (disk brakes & power steering)
Springs front / rear: Any clue?
Shocks: ?
Drive shaft? ?
Axle: ?
Trans: 6 (GT group)
Eng. Trans: A 5 (225hp A code with 4 speed)
Saft. Conv. Pan.: 2 (back up lights)
Tires: C 3 (guess here, but why not)
Rec Seat: 7 (full length console)

Third Line:
Radio: 2 (am radio)
Whl Cvr: 3 (styled steel wheels)
Emer. Flash: 7 (rally pac)
Speedo gear: ?
Speedo type: ?
Landau/Vinyl Roof: 3 (white vinyl)

Am I missing anything or do I have anything wrong?

Check out Pete Bush's thread here:

Pete has done some really good research on the topic and he would be a great person to help on this subject.

Jay,

If you've visited the thread I've been working on you probably realize a few things by now:

1. There's no way of telling what the ROT is. Even if we new what it was for the serial numbers before and after yours, the cars were often not built sequentially.
2. The I. B. Color code can be determined by inspecting your interior and comparing it to my table. Be careful to make sure your interior hasn't been repainted a non-original color.
3. The DEV in Trim stands for "Deviation" in pattern.
4. There''s no way to be sure what order type you had, unless you have some of the original paperwork.
5. In this case the Region/District is the DSO of your door tag
6. DSO here means any special order instructions

As Tom said, you can get a better idea about some of the other details by visiting the thread.

If I can help with any specific questions after you've read some of that info, just let me know.

BTW, Some of the reproduction build sheets being sold as '66 are not the same as the original samples I have on file. The printing stamp in the bottom left-hand corner should have a July date on them.

Pete,

I did find your post and the information is awesome.  I'll do my best in re-creating my sheet.  Unfortunately my build sheet reproduction is dated May 1965.  Nuts.
