Do either one of your cars have the hole for the bracket in your car? (inner fender/battery apron)

The L bracket was a 70 thing (and up) as well as a 67 San Jose on a few cars from what I recall. Not to say you will not find them on other "restored" cars ;)

No hole.  I didn't know it was a 70 thing.

Thanks Jeff

Some 67 Shelby's had it and I know of an original, unrestored 67 Dearborn car that has one.  ;)  I don't think there was ever a conclusion about why some cars got one and others didn't.

Here's a repro that's much like original.
Sorry, the only color I've ever seen on originals is rust.

The 67 's brackets I have seen had remnants of black and is generally a accepted finish. I have however seen others that appear to have never been painted.  There is no established reason for usage at this time. It has been proposed that there might be a correlation with type of battery usage (standard vs heavy duty) but so far that doesn't stand up to the evidence. Many cars have been found that had the heavy duty battery and didn't have evidence of the hole. For now if there is a hole it should have the bracket if no hole don't put the bracket on. Hopefully in the future the real reason will come to light.  The 69 ones I have seen were zinc phosphate . Just my observations. Bob

Bob - I don't (didn't?) think they were used at all in '69.  Tell me more.  Very late '69 cars or ???

I'm not sure of how extensively they were used in '69, but I believe Boss '2s had them.  Both my '70 Boss and my '70 vert had them as well.  May have been an early Shelby trick that expanded, or a piece that was frequently added after the fact to prevent battery shift.

All 70 battery aprons have hole and a hump factory stamped in top of j-bolt area clerance stamping going up side of front apron for using the L bracket to support battery . 70 & 71 brackets are black.

Some are seen on a few 67 Shelby's . They are not used in 68,69/70 Shelby. If it was trick I don't think it was a Shelby inspired trick.Bob

I figured the battery L bracket was long gone but found it, and the hardware, stashed in the console.  8)
