At least for the copies I have of invoices from Dearborn built Mach I's in 69 with special paint there is no credit for the lack of painted racing style mirrors.

Remember this from an earlier discussion on the subject. Beleive examples of 69 invoices were posted in that thread also

It looks like they gave the dealer a credit but not the MSRP.  Under special paint it states "L H REMOTE CONTROL MIRROR SUBSTITUTED FOR COLOR-KEYED RACING MIRRORS"  6.53   5.12-

Were the chrome mirrors a shorter base?  I was wondering when looking at used 69 mustang doors and the set of retaining nuts in the door had a much shorter dimension than the racing mirrors.

Yup. Not a standard mounting dimension. I got a similar problem on my 66 Hardtop going from the original LH mirror to the internally adjustable LH. There's one prominent extra hole (I used a screw to fill it for now) to contend with when the car gets painted.
