Fan on my 69 SCJ 4 speed car - C9OE - H

I have the 6 blade fan on my San Jose May 24 69 build SCJ 4 spd car, and now I just finished the engine rebuild and am cleaning up the parts before assembly.  I read on the 428cj forum a few yrs ago that this fan was only used on the W code cars, not the V code (which mine is), but I see now someone has provided a build sheet from a V code car that had this fan.  I just wanted to share pics of mine, and all other parts are date and pn correct...but the fan spacer looks unique.  No Ford numbers, anyone seen it before?  Doesnt look like an aftermarket item...far better quality than aftermarket.  Open to ideas or info...thanks!

The spacer is consistant with what a pre 1968 spacer looks like. 68 on up including your SCJ had a different shape spacer.The pictured type is Ford just a earlier version. I don't think it is original to the engine . That would be at least a year past the transition date. I thought someone was reproing the correct looking SCJ fan spacer with the correct markings and all.Bob

hkopp do you have build sheet as i am trying to pin - down when and why the scj c9oe-h fan switched over to c9ze clutch fan spring 69 and does your fan have #s on only 1 blade as what i have seen the early fans had 1 blade marked and feb 69 date has #s on all 6 blades. unless SJ is different your spacer isnot like the dearborn 1s i have as mine have a wing cast in center and wider flange. your spacer #S remind me of mopar or gm IDs. how tall is it?

jim that is like the 1 i ordered from ford back in mid 80s but the dearborn assembly line ones had a wing insigna where ford is on yours and there is more metal around the 4 hole area.

I dont have a build sheet for the car...I sure wish I did.  Its a San Jose car and from what I heard they are harder to find than the other sites.  The numbers are only on the 1 blade, and I have seen other that had the upside down R for the H, but not a pic like mine with the upside down R that was X'd out then an H next to it.  This was not a restored car...built and sold in San Jose and I bought it there 31 yrs later in rough but fairly complete shape...so having these parts on it is far more beleivable than a restored car.

As far as measurements, I will try to check it today.  Thanks for the info on the original spacer that others had.  Until I know more about SJ cars I will use this as the fan spacing is correct and I would hate to pitch a part that I find out 5-10 yrs from now was correct.

You misread what I wrote. I've only been documenting confirmed applications. When I find documentation to confirm a V-code application I'll update the site. I've seen the Boss 429 V-code build sheet, but I'd really like to see a non-Boss build sheet, too.

This is probably a question best suited for another thread, but whatever happened to the SCJ engines that were targeted for installation in Boss '9s? Were they installed in the chassis and removed at Kar Kraft, or were they just specified on paper?

In 1967 the Shelby's had a add and delete sheet which indicates paperwork wise that a 390 engine was replaced by a special PI based 2X4 engine. If you took the paperwork literally you would think one was switched out for another with physical labor. We know that the engine and special for Shelby trans (at least on the 67 Shelby) was installed from the beginning on the Ford line. It was a paperwork only transfer type of thing. However the Boss 9 could be very different because of the extensive shock tower work that had to be done Before the B9 engine was installed. I am not familiar with B9 like spec Ed so i don't know if the B9 trans was VIN stamped . If the trans was VIN stamped I would suspect the SCJ engine was in the car when it was taken to Kar Kraft and the engine replaced. That would also get all of the peripheral parts like shifter crossmember etc. That would have to be boxed up or sent independently to KK for the B9 install. Just some more observations . I have talked to Ed and questioned if DSO possibly triggered the H fan !  Seeing that your car was to stay in SJ (mine was Phoenix) I am hoping that someone with a desert DSO has a build sheet to offer.

My W axle car build date is 4/21/69 but the rats ate my sheet !

Between the seat cushion and springs is more typically a San Jose thing but also found at NJ and where ever big Fords and Torinos were assembled. Don't have any examples of Deaborns found at that location
