« on: December 02, 2011, 12:45:03 PM »
I need to know what is the correct radiator cap for a 67 Mustang Built in April 67 in San Jose with a 289 and AC.  Is this the correct one?

Typically you would see the Autolite in a zinc instead of the chrome (industrial chrome) plated cap. The chrome plated cap typically is associated with a dress up option of some kind. Bob

Is the center button supposed to be chrome or brass on the chromed dress up cap? This NOS cap looks chrome at the center.

My Mustang is a Sport Sprint edition that came with the chrome air cleaner lid on top of the blue air cleaner housing.  Would/could it originally come with the dress up option radiator cap?

I would say no because the sprint option was air cleaner only not the full dress up kit. Air cleaner, chrome rocker covers, dipstick and radiator cap. As Bob said the cap should be zinc finish with brass rivet.

Going off thread here a touch but a 390 Gt motor would be the dress up option I presume? So the cap would have a chrome button. I had my original cap rechromed but the plater chromed the button as well. I bought a repop from Marti Autoworks but the chrome is duller and the button is brass. Markings or type font differ from my original cap. I would prefer to use the original but I was worried about the button. Dont remember it ever being brass.

I found this radiator cap.  Would this be a correct OEM cap for my 67 Mustang? It was supposed to be an OEM off a 67, I just want to make sure. Or should it have Autolite on it?

Thank you

Where was your car built

If you don't include that info in your post or add it to your signature at the bottom that question will normally be asked every time before an answer can be given ;)

That is not the radiator cap we've typically seen on 67 San Jose cars IMHO (with the small rivet)

Maybe I can do better with this one, would this be a radiator cap you would expect to see on my unrestored 67 San Jose 289 Sport Sprint Coupe built in April 67?

Thank you Jeff.  I now need to find another one.  That one went for almost $200. I didn't expect it go that high.

WOW, it is my lucky day.  I found a contact at a swap meet that said he had a used one.  He just sent some pictures of it and now it is on it's way to me.

It took a year and help from Jeff and others, and now I have a correct radiator cap.  It is amazing how long it takes to get the little details correct on these cars, and my 67 was very close to start with.
