66 Dearborn Engine Bay/Firewall to cowl Pinch Metal Tag
« on: November 30, 2011, 08:27:34 PM »
Was sandblasting my engine bay today on the 66 Dearborn vert and found this tag in the seam between the firewall and cowl. can't believe I hadn't noticed it before. Does anyone know what it was for? Looks to have a "3" and a "V' punched out of it.

Seen that on Dearborn and Metuchen cars.  Believe it was some type of inspection tag, indicating some check during the assembly/build process.  Sometimes they are torn off with a raw edge.

Dave,

I just inspected my May/June Metuchen Sprint and it doesn't appear to have the tag.

I also found what Charles was talking about in the same location but on LH side of braces. however this one was cut or torn off. Just a little bit sticking out of the seam.

I'll be darned... Dave, Since your car and mine are only 4-5 days apart in Dearborn, I checked my brace areas, and sure enough, I have a punched tag sandwiched on the LH side.  It definately deserves more investigation!!  I can't see anything on the passenger side, but then again I still have my braces on the car.  I am going to re-paint them soon..and when I do, I'll spread the panel a bit when the braces are off both sides, and I'm sure now that I'll find something!
