How Does One Identify An Original Deluxe Decor Steering Wheel?
« on: November 09, 2011, 09:54:30 PM »
How does one identify an original deluxe decor (faux woodgrain) steering wheel in a 1965 Mustang? Are there date stamps, Ford logo or what?  Any photos would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Originals will have cracks!  Well, ok, not always.  The original wheels are just better constructed, the grain actually looks like real wood grain, not something fake.  The rivets fit deeper and more flush on originals too and look like chrome instead of satin.  The repro I have seen, the wood grain actually has a grayish look to it where originals are a brown base with darker highlights.

Ditto the cracks actually more like separations 1/4" sometimes an 1".  The steering/horn assembly does have logo's and part #'s.  The problem is the assembly has to be stripped down to see them.  Brian
