64.5 - D-Code - 4-Speed - Correct Differential Question

I have a question that maybe someone can explain to me.  My car vin is F507D113769 with a build date around 4/14/64.  The door data plate is missing, so I don't know exactly, nor do I know the axle code.  The car has a 4-speed trans.  The axle build tag is coded with WCZ-F   3.00  4DC  which from Colin Date's book "Collector's Originality Guide" indicates this differential would have been used with a 289-4V and three-speed or auto transmission.  The correct tag number for a car with a 4-speed transmission should have had an axle tag with a WCZ-G code and a 3.50 gear ratio.

As far as I know, this is the differential that the car came equipped with, but it could have been changed before I acquired it.  I hope to get in the garage this weekend and put it up on jack-stands to verify the axle ratio.

Anyone have a plausible explanation?

My reference; Mustang Restoration Guide  by Corcoran & Davis states.
   year 67, axle tag WCZ-F & F2, Part # C7OW-4200-G, Ratio 3:00, Gear Size 8, non locking

Kevin Marti's Tagbook doesn't list a WCZ-G rear.
The codes are also broken down according to date: before September 1964 and after August 1964.
Codes for before September are:
WCY-F  3.50 Ratio  170 Engine
WCZ-F  3.00 Ratio  260 Engine
WCZ-F  3.00 Ratio  289 Engine
WCZ-H  3.89 Ratio  289 HP Engine
WCZ-J   4.11 Ratio  289 HP Engine

According to the info in the Mustang Production Guide, the 3.00 rear (which had a code of 1) was used for both the 4-speed and automatic.

Thanks for the information.  It sounds like the data published in Colin Date's book may not be totally accurate.
