6-Cylinder Radiator
« on: November 06, 2011, 11:28:35 AM »
I picked up a used radiator the other day [pictures attached]. I was looking for something to replace the non-original radiator in my Metuchen Sprint; May/June build.
The stamping number is DEP C6ZE 8005 A1 6GB. Apart from the July date code, would this radiator be correct?

Pete,
Don't know for sure about the engineering number but I believe 6 cylinder hoses are 1.25 ID. Can't tell by the picture but you could measure inlet and outlet connections on radiator.

Dave,

The inlet/outlet is 1.25".
And the tabs on the top of the tank are square.
Looks to be a two row core, with 11 fins per inch.

Pete,
My 65 with 289 was C4ZE 8005 Z1 5GA.  I've been looking for one for my May 1966 Sprint also but looks like you got the right one.

Dave,

The basic configuration looks like it would be good for my Sprint. I was hoping to verify the engineering number, and the fact that the tabs on the top of the tank are squared off instead of rounded. 11 fins per inch is consistent with a 6 cylinder with automatic transmission, no thermactor, and standard cooling - according to the shop manual.

The engineering numbers given in the AMK catalog for 6 cylinders all begin with C6ZE, but use G2 and D2 as a suffix. My suffix is A1 - although Charles indicated previously that the AMK numbers might not be entirely correct.

Pete,  I have looked at AMK before and also don't believe they have all the numbers. For what's its worth the radiator I mentioned before also has the squared off tabs on top.

Can any of you other 6-cylinder guys out there help me? I don't want to invest allot of time and money into this radiator if it's not the right one. Please let me know what you have in your car, the date and plant...

Better late than never to post, but my wife has a beautiful one owner, super original '66 6cyl factory 4 speed Metuchen built convertible, and it has a C6ZE-B1 radiator.
