Spare tire wing nut
« on: October 16, 2011, 01:14:58 PM »
I was getting some parts ready for plating and decided I would redo the wing nut. Afte a bath in evaporust I noticed a ring of Zinc Dichromate plating on the square nut in the center of the wing nut. So I took it out, out of curiosity, and this is what I found. Is this how most people detail this piece? Zinc for the wing nut and ZD for the square nut?

Looked at some pics of 68 trunks and now I'm wondering if this wingnut is correct. The one i have currently in car does not have the square nut insert. Can someone verify? Could be out of a 70?

That is not correct for 68. Should just be threaded sheet metal, no nut insert

Thanks Tim. That's the one I have in the car currently. This one was in nicer condition so I was going to refinish it but noticed a difference. I wonder if this ones for a 69/70?
