Are these A/C holes?
« on: September 28, 2011, 12:58:16 AM »
My California Special has no PS, but has a pulley with multiple sheaves on the crank.  Looking farther, I find these holes in the firewall.  Does this look like the car had A/C at some point in its life?

Looks like dealer/owner installed A/C.  Look for abnormal holes in the radiator support too.

Guessing you don't have the AC heater box or the exchangers in the dash. ????

Agree - its an aftermarket likely - possible sears since they were popular at the time for this sort of thing in Calif

There is nothing inside the car.  Here is the driver's side of the radiator support.  This CS/GT was sold new in El Paso--plenty hot to need A/C there!

Would guess that you have not purchased a Marti report for your car yet ;)

It would confirm it you car didn't come with AC originally

I have a Marti that does not list A/C.  That's why I was surprised to have someone note the holes in the firewall and suggest that it had air at some point.  I didn't pay a lot of attention to the holes initially since the car is so tired and has all sorts of added weird stuff, like the radiator puke tank in front of the wiper fluid tank.  So then I started wondering about dealer installed air, but I'm not seeing the hole in the floor with the condensed moisture drainage fitting that I saw in my last early A/C car, so I thought I'd ask what other people thought about the holes.

The cut out in the radiator support is consistent with a air conditioner installation as the lines for a after market or factory A/C condenser and drier are normally mounted in that area. Bob
