1969 and 1970 Tail light harness tags
« on: September 26, 2011, 01:08:24 AM »

I am looking for information on paper tags on the tail light harness for 69 and 70 Mustangs.  The paper tags are typically at the end of the cloth covering near the passenger side tail light bucket.  Typically there is one engineering tag and sometimes an inspector tag as well...with 69 and 70 harnesses tags done slightly different.  If you still have this tag in place and can read would like to see pictures, or post what you have and can read.  Thanks for everyone's help.

Will look to see what I have - I have made a handful of the other wire loom tags when we were doing that 69 Shelby. Once you get the basic layout and the standard art done its sort of "paint by the numbers"

Always thought I could (if I found the time) arrange all the cars wire loom labels on a single page if would be nice. Simply print out a sheet for what ever car your doing, cut them, cover then and apply them

Thanks for the additional tag info.  So from what I am finding the 70 wire harnesses were date coded and the 69 harness was not...but still looking for additional sources.  Also notice that Ford did not service all the different versions of tail light harnesses.  Any additional info or pictures is appreciated.

Yeah, tell me about it.  When customers ask if I have a used taillight harness in stock for sale instead of refurbishing theirs, I say no.  Between coupe, convertible, fastback, dual vs. single exhaust, trunk light, and low fuel sensor, there's just too many permutations.  1969 and 1970's are the most exasperating.  Ford could have saved lots of money designing a single taillight harness that did everything, but not everyone needed to use all of the features.

I am looking for examples of the following harness ID stickers.  Please email a photo if you have an original harness/sticker in your car.  The part number tag is usually near the passenger side tail light bucket:

-69 with trunk light and single exhaust
-69 without trunk light and single exhaust
-69 with trunk light and factory installed dual exhaust
-69 without trunk light, with factory installed dual exhaust

If you can please email me a photo and identify which of the above your car is, along with your car's production info, it would be most helpful.  I will publish my results when enough information has been gathered for all to see, as the Ford Master Parts catalog does not tell the whole story.

Thanks guys.  I actually did a extended write up on the wiring harnesses but never finished it.  Might be time to do that now.....
