'65 Battery clamp
« on: September 24, 2011, 06:52:50 AM »
My July 27th scheduled build date (1965) (Dearborn) K code has/uses a group 24 battery (the reproduction one from Antique Battery in Ohio) and the "short" hold down clamp.
My question is should the hold down clamp have the half-circle cut-out tab like the longer clamp that is made for use with the group 22 batteries?

-It seems (to me) that the one for the group 22 battery-(the long one) is the one that has the cut-out, I have looked at pictures of NOS ones for the group 24 battery and there doesn't appear to be enough room for a cut-out....

Ford serviced the short ones with and without the tab.  Your July '65 Dearborn car most likely had one with the tab.

Would be very careful about using service replacement parts as a reference for assembly line correctness.

Both clamps have the cut out.It fits in the notch along the base of the battery. There are atleast 2 versions of the Group 24 clamp.1 with the half moon and 1 with a tab.

Not at the moment, but a competent machine shop could probably modify one without the tab to be correct.

Thanks Charles! I never considered that. Would you or anyone else have a picture of what a correct one looks like? Like I said I've only seen the longer ones for the 22F batteries so far with the tab. (Thanks!)

I just purchased one, NOS factory original w/tab (not a service part), and I should have it in 2-3 days. I'll post a picture when it comes in.

If its a NOS part then its a service part - just likely an early - correct or more correct one ;)

Glad to see you found one

Guys, Het thanks for the imput on this and the picture offer Chris.
-Something so small.....seems like it would be easy enough for whomever is reproducing the short ones with the tab to just do the short ones the same way and be done with it.
-I'll bet an outfit like Scott Drake or Daniel Carpenter could do it with no problem.

Here are some pictures of the correct 65 battery clamp for the Group 24 battery. I just received this in the mail yesterday, still has the FoMoCo part tag attached.

I always thought the semi-circle could be cut with a laser and then the tab bent over.  Just never pursued it, usually able to find and original or NOS with tab when needed.
