Nordan front bumper
« on: September 14, 2011, 10:03:13 AM »
I've had this number sitting in the attic for 25 years. It has a sticker on the back with Nordan ND. I've located an original but replating is expensive so it will be a winter project. tried mounting the repop last night and it fits great on the drivers side but trouble at the two bracket point on the passenger side plus it sticks out off the fender way more than the little bracket is foxing to reach. The fender bracket on drivers appears good. So is the bumper to long? Was this manufacturer good back then. Are the bumpers today better? Need to make the car look complete now so don't want to wait til spring with no front bumper.

Tim thanks for the heads up. Friend told me to loosen up the bumper bracket bolts at the frame and keep the ones on the bumper loose. Move brackets around until all bumper bolts, wave washers and nuts fit. Then move it from side to side to line up and install fender to small bracket bolts and tighten those up. Then go to bumper bolts
And torque and finally torque bolts at frame. Seems kind of backwards but let's see if it works.

Hope it works for you. I all ways replate originals. It empties my pockets but keeps the blood pressure down. Marty

Worked perfectly. Bumper on and equal gap at both fenders. I'll get the original replated over winter. Plater Quoted me 375....gag. Now all I need are Scott Fullers clips for wiring and then front wheels can go on and she comes off jack stands.

Early Nordan bumpers were the best quality repros out there up until the early 2000's.. Then the chrome plating got so-so...

They are still "OK"- but nothing like the early Nordan bumpers.  I believe that they are now made in Japan for the last decade..hence quality in chrome issues....Still probably the best out there though..next to NOS or replating an original..

I bought this one in 87 or 88 so I guess it is one of the good ones. I hope the chrome lasts longer than Ford NOS parts. The rear 1/4 trim already shows a blister. Sat in the basement for 25 years without any harm and one winter in the garage and a blister. The last time this car saw water was in 1991 so it can't be that. Maybe it was humidity.
