My 68 fastback was missing the decklid when I got it, so I finally found a rust free original decklid, but got two questions, It has 2 holes that look like sheet metal screws were installed in the center of the reinforcement (hinge side) under the lid, holding something rectangular down. I thought this was for something added like an aftermarket trunk light, but when I checked another rusted out lid I had, it's got the same 2 holes.. So, can someone telll me what went there, as I have no clue, and more importantly, I'll need to find or buy one...
Question 2.. The date code on this lid is strange, it's " A _ (2 backwards sevens)_ 8 " Do trunk lids usually follow standard dating conventions, or can anyone make sense of this ?
Someone on the 428 forum thought the two holes were for a torsion spring clamp, but my hinges have coiled springs on them, did 68's use both ?
If it matters , the car is a very late Metuchen car...
Thank's in advance, John
