70 white fold down trap door color
« on: July 29, 2011, 04:45:21 PM »
Doing a 70 Mach with wite interior and fold down.  I did a search and Jeff states that the trap door should be charcoal as well as the fiberglass panel between the trap door and the rear glass.  All the other panels are white.  I have a couple of other judges that say its white, some say black.  What say you? Does anybody have a picture of the original interior? Can't find one to save myself.  I HATE building cars out of boxes.  Thanks guys!

Dave

That matches what I've been seeing on original cars.  It can be a challenge for some since many "restored" cars or cars in magazines have the panels repainted to all be white. Might make more sense or look better but does not appear to be as built ;)

your right Jeff,
it does look better for the back panel to be white but it ain't right!

good reason why you should not always assume a "restored" car is right

I'm going with that.  That is also different from what a high level judge told me.  Thanks a bunch for the photo.  Jeff, early 70 car built September 69. - Dave

Make you a little folder to travel with the car when you show it. Then, as I normally suggest, before the judges start judging offer something like the following

"Before you get started judging I'ld like to share with you something that came up during the restoration." then kindly offer what you found on original early 69 NJ cars and reference the discussions. At that point any reasonable judge should IMHO give you the benefit of doubt (if there still remains any) and do some addition searching on their own after the show. Its not unusual for many of us to rely just on what we've seen on shows - restored cars - not allot of unrestored, especially NJ cars ;)

Hope this all helps
