69 390 Engine Head Gasket Question
« on: July 19, 2011, 03:37:31 PM »
I am preparing to detail my 390 S Code engine that is currently out of the car. The head gaskets protrude from the block (on the front of the block) approx. 1/4". The gasket is a metal/paper combination. Is the protrusion correct for a Jan Dearborn car?

All along the length of the face or only at the bottom forward corner or that general area?

Jeff:

It is the front facing end of the head (nearest the radiator).

Thanks

Don't see an edge sticking out 1/4" the full length on original engines in the pictures I have

Jeff:

Thanks for the information. Do you happen to have a photo, I am uncertain if there should be some gasket or no gasket extending from the head/block.

Thanks for the information. Do you happen to have a photo,

Some examples of what appear to be originals. Sorry hard to find allot of pictures of this detail. So often AC or PS is in the way

Thanks Jeff:

From what I can see it appears to be flush, no gasket protruding.

Along the flat face - (there is a bit of gasket lower on the assy that can be seen where the head cuts back in towards the block head surface)  I would agree
