1966 Driver's side Metal air-vent Pic requested..

I restored my '66 Driver's side Metal air vent assembly last year, and thought that the bottom of it was bent out-so I bent it back up flush with the bottom... Now I am not so sure if it came that way.  Just need a few pics to confirm if the bottom lid "sticks" out a 1/3 of the way from the bottom, or if the bottom lid or "floor" of it is supposed to fit flush with the bottom.  I definately cannot remember on this one..

Thanks,

Tony K.

Holy Cow!

It looks like the bottom is peculiarly bent (Top Right view in above photo)... I guess that that bend is factory!!! This definately beckons more research.. Any one got any more pics of the open bent area??

Thanks,

Tony K.

The original one in my dad's '66 (bought it in '68, kept it ever since) has that bend.  I always assumed something happened to it, or maybe it was bent somehow.  It's definitely original and has never been removed from the car.

Yeah, I mean if you really look at it, At first glance, It really looks like someone has "messed" with it.  Who knew that it came that way...lol...

Ford also used a different style driver side vent in 1966. I was looking at a friends California F/B and noticed that it was not like my Dearborn F/B.

Hopefully this isn't too far off topic, but why do reproduction vents have that plastic cover on the bottom side?  I've seen a lot more original vents that were missing the cover than ones that had it...why is that?

'65-early '66 have the plastic bottom and then starting sometime in '66, was changed to all metal.  In either '67 or '68 they were changed to all plastic.
