Driveshaft Markings for '69 351W/FMX?
« on: June 20, 2011, 10:07:57 PM »
After finally finding a usable driveshaft locally, I realized that the original paint markings might not match what came on my car originally.  Does anyone have any idea what markings an original driveshaft would've had when this car was new?

'69 Mach 1, 351W, FMX, a/c, built June 5th, 1969, at the Metuchen plant.

Thanks!

My car is a May 12 San Jose car but I think I can retrieve the colors from it. It is a 351/FMX/9in car.

Anyone know if this would apply to a Metuchen car?

Thank you!  If I can ask another question:  How are those three stripes laid out?  Any certain dimension or measurements?

Thanks!

First one started right about the last third of the total length of the driveline. Not exact.  Would say that they were around 1 1/25-2" wide. Maybe a little wider id they were smudged

Sorry for bringing up this old thread again…
I have quite a similar Metuchen built 69 and some of the factory markings are still there!
Quantity, location and color is quite different though to what was mentioned above!?

There are 2 thin stripes (kind of yellow) at the front side of the shaft and 2 wider ones at the back side. One of them was blue.
The other one is gone unfortunately but size and location is still visible.

Does anyone know what color this could have been and if this code does make any sense on my car??

Car is a November 68 built 351W M-code GT convertible with FMX, 9" locking rear end, DSO 90 (Export)

…Maybe it’s also helpful on any researches.

Regards from Switzerland:)

Looks like it might have been replaced at some point but at the moment don't have any Oct M coded  automatic equipped car to confirm if they used the same driveline as the later cars as asked for by the OP

Ok thanks Jeff,

Assuming it's not the original shaft anymore, I'll remove the old markings and make it Chartreuse, Lavender, White.
