1967 Dearborn 390 non GT 39,000 miles
« on: June 15, 2011, 11:50:02 PM »
From my 39,000 mile 1967 390 non-GT, no AC, Dearborn car.

Could this be an original belt and is the 466 a build date?  Where is the best place to look for a build sheet. I checked under the front seats but haven't looked under the backseat yet.

466 would be 4th quarter, 1966, so legit for a '67 production year car.

About the only place you might find a build sheet might be under the carpet.  Or, possibly one stuffed somewhere.

Thanks Charles,

Build date for the car is Feb 7, 67 so belt wasn't too old.

I'll look around for the build sheet in the easy spots first. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Have you ever seen a paper tag on the rear axle of  67 Dearborn car?

Looks like it might be a series of 5's but hard to tell. Not sure of the best way to clean this without ruining it?

Yes, most all axles from back then were supposed to have an identification tag.  Guess it was easier than reading the metal tag for quick identification/application.

Not on that specific application but on others. Pattern includes identification numbers and such as well as a repeating pattern of what looks to be dots but they are small geometric symbols instead. Numbers and letters are printed not all in a straight line and different colored paper was used depending on year and application it appears.

Jack Brooks has some for specific applications but not all years or applications.

Might remove it and just keep it in a binder with the other car findings. Would use the wax and silicon remover treatment as mentioned before to clean buildsheets.

Nice find

Jeff,

Thanks for the info....I'll look up the wax and silicon remover treatment method you mention and give it a try when I get a chance. Here's a close up of the tag as it is and it looks to me to be some 5's?  I'll be curious to see what I find and if any color still exists.

I removed some old oil build up on the DS head and found this. Appears to be a '12' in a circle.  Common marking?

Haven't seen that particular one yet but it fits patterns I've seen before at that engine plant

Intresting close-up in that the head and oil dipstick tube retained blue engine paint but the block looks to be bare metal in the area shown. Did heat just burn it up?

Does anyone know what the code would be on the paper tag for a 68 3.25 traction loc rear end?

I'm pretty sure you don't have the build sheet, do you have the axle tag? Is it a WES G?

Good point... I was focused on the head and didn't pay much attention to the block. When I get a chance I'll clean up the block some more and look for traces of paint.

So much much dirt and grease, so little time.  ;D

I figured the battery L bracket was long gone but found it, and the hardware, stashed in the console.  8)

Does this indicate the car came with a GOODYEAR spare tire?
