64.5 Convertible Wheel size
« on: April 23, 2025, 06:15:38 PM »
I just had the 40 year old tires removed from the steel rims that came with my project 64.5 convertible.  I was surprised that two rims measure 15' X 6" and two measure 15" X 7".  What size rims would have originally come with this car?

a lot depends on the build date & engine size which you did not specify. more info is necessary for an accurate answer.

Not a common option, and with a 260, even more "rare". That's not saying a dealer might have installed 15 inch wheels, but without a window sticker - nope.

it could have had 13 or 14" wheels. some early V-8 cars had the 13's. i never knew why unless they were using up parts. for your application i would go with 14 x 5.

I am realizing I have no idea how to measure wheels.  I was measuring the outer diameter at 15".  The tires that came off the car are 14" so I am figuring you do not measure the largest outside diameter.  Now I am wondering what width dimension you use.  the 6 and 7 " I was measuring were to the outside.  Is the actual measurement to the inside of the lip?

Yes. And even that can get confusing.

A web search should pull up lots of references of how to measure a wheel properly.
