NOTE: I too another look at al the pictures I had and as a result reworded my earlier response
For our 67 coupe, NJ, build date 5-11-67, how do I know what trunk mat to buy? The car no longer had a mat when the restoration began. NPD has plaid, TM-78CC-P. Speckled, TM-78CC-S. Plaid, TMB-7B. Curious if it needs plaid or speckled. Thought I?d ask the forum so I purchase the correct pattern.
First point is that I believe that coupe and convertible mats for 67 are shaped the same so that we can increase the number of possible examples to include both body styles.
For examples there is a number of pictures of a late NJ convertible in the Unrestored Picture Thread titled - 67 NJ T Code Convertible - Late 67 Built - Unrestored Picture Thread
It has a projected build date of 5/21/67 so possibly a little more than a week or less difference
There is also pictures of an April built coupe - same plant in - 67 NJ T Code Convertible April 67 - Unrestored Picture Thread
Looking at my collection of notes and pictures I was hard pressed to find any speckled trunk mats used at NJ during 67 production. It appears that their main and possibly only normal supplier was the one that manufactered the plaid mats. Very different from what took place the following year at NJ. I did find one (7T01C1709xx) example with an original speckled mat but earlier and later cars with plaid style. Could post dozen of plaid examples but that likely isn't needed and we should really focus on cars built around the same time as your car. IMO which I think we did.
7T01C298836 is the highest sequential numbered 67 NJ coupe with an original plaid mat in it so far Looking for the highest speckled mat at the moment
So just what I found with my resources
If you have some close ups of the sewn pattern used on the original mats you can reproduce that with some heavy black tread if you careful. I made a paper pattern that I used to follow that I placed over the seams where they were originally done. Not for everyone but worked fort me if you a "do it yourselfer"
