Front bumper inner arms and assembly drawing parts R.P.O?
« on: March 16, 2025, 11:05:58 AM »
Gents,

Looking at the assembly drawing for the front bumper and overriders. There are several parts listed as RPO including the overriders, bolts, clip in nuts and also a rubber isolator. What does RPO stand for/mean?

It was discussed on another forum that the front inner bumper arms (item 1) came stock with the rubber isolator (item #10) and nut/retainer (item T) pre-installed even if no bumper overriders were optioned. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

Ed Meyer confirmed that.

John

John, Ed made the statement, no one confirmed it.  I am trying to ascertain if it is all inner bumper arms, or if it is just a certain time period or assembly plant.

That is why I am asking. I have not seen those RPO optional bumper overriders parts installed on any of the cars I have disassembled and I could not find any unrestored photos with the RPO fastener T installed. In fact the two photos I did find here on this site were missing fastener T, p/n 37699-S2.

People have also been installing the rubber isolator pad (C6MB-17B947) on the bumper arm since DNO and others started reproducing them. However it is also listed as an RPO part on the assembly drawing.

The rubber stoneguard anti rattle protector that just simply hooks onto the end of bumper arm very easy falls off as they should have been glued on or had an extra hook on the one end like the 70 -71 cougars did using same type of rubber pad with a better design. The 69-70 mustang rubber pads can easy fall off even from a car wash or pressurewashing. Some stay on if they are pinched between the stone guard and bumper arm as thats why u see a cut wore into used originals but it really depends on how the factory front bumper arm was mounted or adjusted as i seen some cars with a bigger gap between bumper arm and stoneguard and the rubber serves no purpose and will fall off easy but if  proper aliginment was done they serve a purpose. As far as metal pushon clip (T ) being installed on all cars even if no bumper arm option was used i questioned this also back years ago but had many b9 cars here and they never were offered any bumper arm guards like other cars did and the clips were in place so i installed them on all cars i work on. When these clips were found on arms without bumper guards i am sure they were removed since the restorer thought they were added by mistake. This clip was added after arm was painted and is the small diameter hole and the long thin type push on clip. I work on mostly dearborn cars but SJ and MT maybe different and jeff  s. may have photos of this clip pre installed.

Ed, that is exactly why I asked in the general 1970 Mustang section and did not limit it to Dearborn or Boss. I discussed with a bunch of guys who have Boss Mustangs but not all are unrestored or unmolested. The most recent  ones I have worked on were a 1969 SJ convertible and a couple of NJ Mustangs (69 and a 70 Mach-1).  My photos and my memory show no u-nut clip but again I am not sure if they were unmolested.
