Grille Molding Argent Paint
« on: June 11, 2011, 08:41:46 PM »
What's the right paint type / brand / code and where can I buy it, to repaint the grey/silver/argent painted portions of the "wide" moldings used on 67 mustang grilles? I have a couple nice pieces but eh painted portions are lightly scuffed from sitting on the shelf and I need to repaint them.

I have an old can of genuine ford labeled argent paint, PN F6AZ-19K207-AA that says "Ford Argent" on the label (rattle can) but I have no idea if that's the right stuff to use.

I'm not so sure that F6AZ-19K207-AA is the right color for 1967 grille use. I found at least one thread that implied that F6AZ-19K207-AA was intended for 1970 grilles which use a darker silver/grey than was used on 67 grilles. Is there any truth to this?

NPD sells several different argent paints (rattle can) but they don't describe what each is intended for. Help?

I probably should have noted that I am talking about the grey/silver paint used on the grille moldings, not the metal mesh grille itself.

Understood.  You have the correct Argent, silver, for the grill surround sections.  Be sure to mask, carefully the polished edge portions.  Take your time as the prep will show in the finished job.  The darker Argent Gray is for the wheels.  Brian

I have a question about the wide grille moldings and found this topic, so I hope it makes sense that I continue this thread...
in attachment 2 pictures (front and back view) of my wide grille moldings and I want to know what the back finish supposed to be??
the front is Argent paint (like discussed at beginning of this thread) and bright dipped aluminum finish?
but is the back bare aluminum?
or also bright dipped?
Must it be a shinny finish or more mat/dull?
I see that there is some spray over paint from the stone guard, but not much.
Is that correct, or do I have it wrong?
Thanks again for your help.
kind regards,
Jeroen

Jereon, we are working over the same areas  ;)

I have two original '67 pairs and a NOS set that the back sides all indicate the whole wide molding was first "bright dip anodized", then all 3 sets had the raised area nearest the grille mesh masked off and only the top side was shot Ford Argent.

Now any 68 Mustang restorers reading this...you have a different set of rules on this detail  ;)

??? High Country & CS are argent too? I'm no judge so my weight won't carry here, I just thought there were some different exceptions in 68

GT/CS and HCS cars were not argent, but instead painted a Dark Grey Metallic.  The closest I have found is SEM Dark Titanium Metallic #39263. As far as a replacement for your application, I can't remember.  Try this thread on another site.   http://californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?p=100649#post100649

It is for the GT/CS-HCS crowd, but it may be of some help.  Mike

Hello Richard,

it seems that way  :)l
But I am following all your Q&A, because I am by all means no expert!
Thanks for helping me further.
I have also scanned the color for the Argent paint...
I hope that it is close enough for the people at the other side of the globe....
Kind regards,
Jeroen
