69 7.35x14 Space Saver
« on: February 02, 2025, 05:45:01 PM »
Posted a few pictures on another site and realized that this subject had not been covered in the past here so here is some information to help others identify the original space saver used on these cars.

Tire would be a B.F. Goodrich 7.35-14 that does not have printing that says it 'replaces' anything.
There are other space savers that were made that have the E78-14 Replaces 7.35-14 lettering. These are not what your looking for

-Standard Ford 14x6 5 lug rim

Rim/wheel is a standard Ford 14x6 1/2 with a Ford oval and a date and supplier code below. Decoding information in the article in the Library

Valve stem is a single rubber with metal cored design with a opaque valve stem cap with the stem remover feature at the top.

If your restoring one leave off the often seen warning labels unless your more concerned about warning yourself or others than being factory correct. These were sent out by Ford warning owners about issues and included the decals that were suppose to be installed. This took place after the cars were produced.

Hope this helps

Also there are 2 versions of this tire early thin and later thicker side wall by about 1/4'' but same markings 7.35 of which dont make sence as the later thick version is more like the b9 car 7.75 thick sidewall

Jeff your top photo looks like the later type 1 1/6'' thick sidewall and the early type is 3/4''.  BUT they both say 7.35   of which dont make sense to me as why same size when they are very different thickness?
