Moving threads- Question
« on: January 25, 2025, 10:43:08 PM »
Is there anyway that threads can be left in the General Discussion area where they at least have a decent chance of being seen instead of being moved to other areas to never be seen again? I understand the need to keep it somewhat organized but in the end isn't all of this stuff really just general discussion?

Sorry if we need to agree to disagree. If you are interested in everything being in one or a couple of sections I invite you to visit some of the other sites or turn to Facebook where that is the norm but that is one of the reasons we left and set up shop here where members and lurkers could not see years, models or discussions that didn't matter to them while having other sections where they and others could dive deeply into the finer details. The General Section is typically used for things related to the running of the site, errors or corrections needed, password or access questions and things that don't fit any established major sections. Or sometimes to get me to spell words correctly  ::)

If everyone posted their threads in the wrong section then this section (the general one) is going to get filled real quick and they will be will be out of sight as they reach the bottom then next page like many forums have. By posting them in their correct location they get looks from people that are focused and interested in on that area as a lot of people here have their favorites.  As a compromise we have been leaving the threads that indicate something has been moved for typically a week or so in that way the poster does get noticed, if someone is interested in the subject, they can click on link and find the original post. If that got abused  I guess we would start reducing that time or eliminating the link saying something has been moved all together but that often leaves the OP wondering where their thread went though they can go back to their profile and fine it by looking up their past posts.

This all seems to work since we opened the site thirteen years ago and for almost 7,000 members.

Just for public knowledge duplicate post will not be moved but be removed as its seen as spamming.

Hope you understand our task and format as well as why we have made our choices. Overall it seems to have worked out fairly well for you given your over 100 posts and questions answered

As for your PVS thread you just posted I moved it to the thread that best fits though I likely should have merged it with the larger (4 pages) thread on the subject likely will at some point but will let it stay for now since the subject is sensitive it appears.

Jeff, I agree 100%.  Facebook is worthless when it comes to research and finding quality content that is older than a couple hours, unless you comment or otherwise get yourself attached to the discussion.  Then it might be accessible for a couple days.  I've found no better way to organize things than how it is done here.  Considering the vast range of knowledge, skill, etc. that is saying a lot.  I appreciate the time and effort that you and the moderators invest.
