Fasteners for Fresh Air Vents to car? 1969
« on: December 27, 2024, 05:13:26 PM »
1969 Metuchen fastback/sportsroof

I've searched this and other sites as well as AMK and several of the major parts retailers, to no avail.

What type of screw/fastener do you use to fasten the two plastic fresh air vents to the car?  (has a 'foam seal' between the vent mechanism and the car.  I have my vents, I just can't figure out what screws are used?

They don't seem to be in the AMK 'Interior Master' or 'Interior Individual' kits or if they are, they aren't matching any words I'm using to search.

Thank you for any help.

Based on your post, you don't have a set of "1969 Mustang Assembly Manuals". I strongly suggest you invest in a set for your car.
The screws you seek are shown in the Electrical Assembly Manual for the vents. They are 55908-S2. If you look in this forum's library under topic "Mustang Hardware Spreadsheets 69-70" you will find two spreadsheets, one by part number (MHW69-70PN06.XLSX), one by use (called APP - MHW69-70AP06.XLSX) (the 06 is the revision).
This is what is shown (abbreviated):
55908-S2 / 8-18X3/4HH,REC,FLNG 11/32,1/4HEX,TPG / SCREW,HEX,REC,FLNG,TPG / 10 / DUCT ASSY-BODY@FR QTR / ELE / 69,70 / E9-215-1,E0-225-1
It is available from AMK - https://www.amkproducts.com/ - their stock number B-12078.

Thank you for quick response.

Yes, actually I have the assembly manual(s).  Honestly never crossed my mind to check the Electrical manual for that particular part.

If anyone else comes to this post looking for same info, to save you some time, it is on drawing E9-215-1.  Air Controls Cables & Vents - All Models

Thanks again, the Spreadsheet info will be extremely helpful going forward.

You're welcome. On the right hand side of the spreadsheets are the sources. You need to read the "note and abbreviations" as well.
Another source is "Ford Car Parts" (called the MPC by some). The link goes to a Ford Thunderbird website that we were given permission to reference and use. It is the 75 edition of the document that Ford dealers used to get the Ford service stock number covering 1965 thru 73 Fords. Remember this: the number are SERVICE STOCK numbers, not always the original Ford assembly line part number (called the "engineering number" by some). The number spelled out will work, but it is not always the assembly line number. The illustrated section is also valuable as it show "blow up drawings".
The spread sheets do have a description of the hardware item, its use (application) and references (I didn't dream this stuff up). I also recommend the "AMK Guide To Ford Fasteners - 1955 -73" as a reference document.
