Firewall A/C hole locations on a May 65 NJ Mustang

I'm installing an original AC system on my FB Metuchen May 65 and trying to find the correct place to the firewall wire hole, hope you may help...Don't know why but I was not able to open your photos on this post, no lucky.

The picture that Charles posted is almost 14 years old and the message says it appears to be "corrupted" (you get that way in old age).
According to the "1965 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual" (AM0008) pgs 49 and 65, the A/C wire hole is on the firewall to the left of the left hand shock tower support where it attaches to the firewall, about 1 1/2 inches down, and the instructions say to make a hole with a 7/16 drill using an "existing dimple" to locate it. No measurements are referenced.
If you do not have a set of the Mustang Assembly Manuals for your year car I strongly recommend you invest in a set.

racincast - I separated these post for the reasons mentioned in the Note I placed in the original post above. I'll look and see if I have a picture of an original example from that plant and production period. Early NJ car examples are more difficult to find since they are often in worst condition that cars from the other two plants.

Since the number of cars with decent or usable pictures of that section of the firewall is small, that didn't take too long.

Found three examples from around the possible April/May 1965 production period. All of these appear to have the typical 65-66 style knock outs or had them given the location. Have included the shortened VINs so you can compare those also to your cars VIN

Hello.

thanks for your support, Jeff I use exactly the location according your photos and arrows for A/C tubes but now I?m struggling with the wire passage on the firewall that according jwc66k should be on the dimple with arrow on the photo.

That Holly Bible always mentioned on several technical post's "1965 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual" AM0008 I can't find it, please send me a link for it. I have several books but without those kind of details, so I'm loosing so many time to find photos and post's to proceed.

The wiring "dimple" should be located as indicated in the picture below -
You may have to scrape away the sealant applied to the firewall to locate it.
As to Mustang Assembly Manuals document's, it took me a couple of minutes to find the link on the National Parts Depot website - because, in this instance, the website is NOT user friendly -

I recommend the paper (aka book) versions as it is difficult to make note on a disc copy.
Available 65 manuals are: body; interior; electrical; weld/sealant; chassis; engine. I realize that the total cost is over $160 (plus shipping) and that you are in Portugal - but I consider these worth the price (I have a copy of each year, 40 volumes total).

As far as one source being the bible..... IMO there is no one perfect source for the details most of us are looking for. There are mistakes and possible misreporting no matter where you get your information. Feel much more comfortable when multiple types of resources show the same details.

To that end and to provide some additional examples I focused this time on the specific area you mentioned But since I have few NJ examples from that production time period I have to share those from a different plant in hopes that these wil help.

Not certain the very early cars had these dimples or not. Sometimes they can be difficult to see or covered with the spray sealer but for your cars period you now have more examples





Edit:  Had to include the mention that the pictures above are from cars of a different plant but the same production period due to the lack of good clear pictures from NJ plants as mentioned in earlier posts.

Yes. It made it easier for those couple of workers if the same hole was used all the time for routing that AC wire. Far right or towards driver side dimple or location above that major wire loom connection.

Did edit and correct reply #7 to indicate where the pictures in that reply came from.

Since I don't have any pictures from unrestored 65 NJ cars with AC I can't be certain that they did.  One can assume but that is not our normal practice on this site though every owner had the ability to make those choices for themselves. Not that others will all agree without some documentation and as we have found we can't rely on the MPC or Assembly manuals 100% of the time for all Mustangs built through the whole production year and all plants

I do think it is a possibility that they did - the reason for offering examples from other plants which I would post in a different thread so viewers would not automatically assume were from NJ in 1965.

Just trying to be complete and on focus

Saw now this photo, do not now nothing about the car but AC tubes retainer on the brace is there
