1970 351C starter solenoid question
« on: December 17, 2024, 07:18:42 PM »
I have replaced the starter solenoid many times over the years and need to do it again. Can anyone tell me what markings were on the original?  The NOS one I just bought has "JUMBOSOLENOID" and "12V"on the bracket and no other markings. Thanks!

Well from the description your "NOS" solenoid doesn't fit the description of an original nor a Ford service replacement . Of course many sellers on Ebay and other locations will list parts as NOS only relying on the definition of new old stock. NOT specifically a Ford NOS part.  Unless they have placed the item in an old Ford box or placed one in the picture in the ad to possibly mislead buyers in believing it is or was an original Ford part.

There are two versions of the Autolite starter solenoid used during the production year the flat and the more upright style. Which one was used at which plants has not been determined as of yet that I know of with any certainty or documention. Though we can at times look at other examples from same plant same production period in an effort to find the most likely version for a particular car. Guess this is for your Dearborn built coupe?  You might want to consider adding the details about your car in your signature. It can help in answering many of the questions asked.

Believe there is an earlier thread with pictures and such I'll see if I can find it and post a link or post some pictures of each

Here you go. Found them using the search feature and the word "solenoid" then choose from the long list of threads for the one that fit your request

C7AF-11450-A for the up right style
C9AF-11450-A for the flat style

Most aftermarket versions over the decade were made to look similar to the up right style you see in the pictures in the lonks
