Topic: 70 manual choke cable with bracket

Hi All,
Would any have a photo of the 70 manual choke and where its location would sit. Is it far left or right of drivers position?

To the right of the steering column would be the location of the knob typically.

Since the car in your signature didn't get a manual choke guess your working on something else.

And since you didn't mention what plant the car was built at I'm going with a 70 Dearborn Boss 302 for the sources shown below

When I purchased the car - it had an after market carby.
My signature says SAN JOSE Mach 1 70(late built 69)

So the 70 mach1 didnt have this setup? is that correct?
Because I purched this car - it had an after market carby and assumed they all came with a choke because of its age?

Manual chokes were replaced in the late 50's early 60's on many applications. Retained on some performance and commercial vehicles. They were replaced with the automatic chokes since this made it easier for owners.


IF you look at the unrestored thread in that section titled - 70 San Jose - M code Mach I - Jan Build - Unrestored Picture Thread you will notice no choke provision at the carburetor. Same plant (though that doesn't make a difference in this detail) same engine.

As Jeff explained, not for a car with the M-code engine. The Q-code and R-code 428 CJ engines did use a manual choke when installed in a 1970 Mach 1.

 My cable sits on an angle as well (the words CHOKE do not sit flat) and I can find no humanly way possible to correct it. Were they meant to sit like that and Ford was messing with us OCD people? Mines from a Nov 69, Dearborn Boss302.

Not unusual to find them simply off just a little bit from my experience. Apparently they were not going to take the time to rotate the cable inside enough for the cable to site perfectly - except maybe for magazine or ad photos. If someones sat perfectly guess they were just lucky. Now if it was upside down or say 90 degrees off I can see a buyer asking for that to be corrected. Just depends
