Front Brake drums V8
« on: December 10, 2024, 10:44:03 PM »
Got some 67 Fairlane brake drums. Wondering if these are correct for my 68 car.

Can anyone post some pictures of the factory installed front brake drums for 67/68 V8 Mustang? You can get 4 bolt smooth drums still but not 5 bolt smooth drums.

I'm particularly interested too in the markings on the drums.

And were the drums installed at the plants different depending on where the car was built or were they the same?

This is all I could find in my collection of pictures. Not a lot of pictures with the front wheels off (most often in yards) where someone had not removed the assembly. Most likely the reason to remove the wheel and tire

Here is a couple of pictures of a smooth style front drum - service/NOS replacement part. They are dated from 68 so that might indicate that the supplier for the service parts was possibly one of the suppliers of one of the car assembly plants

I got a drum just like these and one thing I noticed is the wall thickness of the hub on the outside edge is larger than the first ones I have pictured by at least 1/16 inch if not 1/8. It's noticeable when you compare these pictures with mine.

Possibly different supplier. Can't see the markers mark or name on the ones I posted. Hard to make out. Think almost always they will have FoMoCo or Ford cast in the drum and have seen KH on many. On the second picture below the casting is sort of covered by the watermark.  :o

Since the hubs are separate from the drums,  would they have been manufactured by the drum company they are pressed into or different company? I've looked for markings on the hubs to no avail.

Here's a couple of pictures of the markings on one drum and hub.

On the drum you can see FOMOCO KH

On the hub looks like 76381 over top of C7OA 1106 possibly

On the studs you can see KH/A clearly

Does this mean anything to anyone or is it familiar?

Well at least we know that they were produced by Kelsey Hayes as a start  :)

Would have to look to see if 76381 shows up on any other example
