Water Pump Pulley - 1969 428 Cobra Jet
« on: November 14, 2024, 06:44:11 PM »
From the Pulley Spreadsheet in the Library Section, two (2) water pump pulleys were used for 1969 Cobra Jet cars with smog & no AC. The distinguishing factor between the two pulleys in the spreadsheet is the car's rear-end axle ratio.

The Mustang 428 CJ Registry Website lists the same two water pump pulleys, but their distinguishing factor between the two pulleys is the car's build date.

Which is the correct distinguishing factor?

I'll be using one of these in my March 17, 1969 built Q-Code Convertible, which has smog and power steering, no a/c, 3.5:1 axle ratio.

Thanks in advance.

Repeating what I added to this same topic on the 428 CJ forum:

We may need to revise the ID page with respect to that build date information. I see the 2/17/69 date listed for the 1969 390 GT, but not the 428 CJ.

Looking at build sheets, we see three different water pump pulleys listed for 1969 CJ Mustangs:

6AEA
8AEC
8OEA

Every SCJ seems to use the 8AEC pulley. Most of the CJs use the 8OEA pulley.  I have a small number of CJs using the 8AEC pulley, all but one has an "S" axle code (3.50 traction-lok, one is "A" 3.50 open), and they do happen to be later builds. All of the cars with a 6AEA pulley are CJs, and all have a/c.
