69 small a/c hose type
« on: November 03, 2024, 09:29:47 PM »
Trying to document the small diameter hose as i got 3 here and the big hose has c9za # stamped and they are the same but no ford #s on small hose and the 2 with straight end by firewall only difference is the crimping type and maybe 2 vendors but i got 2 pairs here still clamped together with big hose c9za # and small hose is 68 type as its got the offset Z shaped tube going into firewall and no ford id# on none of the 3 small hoses so is it a running change use up 68 type before 69 type or what?  I got a late 70 a/c car here that all original so i know the correct hose for it and its the longer crimp type so its the early 69 cars we need to document.

Will take a look at what I have and in pictures.

So, to make sure what we're looking for, is the small diameter long hose that attaches to the AC at the firewall on the passenger side of the car.

- Crimp style
- Possible markings
- Solid tube attached to the firewall end - Shape

Got it correct?

My late 70 car has the stronger longer crimp type so it may have been changed from the shorter tapered type crimp that looks like weak crimp being so short also the sight glass is different between the 2 types so i think that was more 69 era BUT what i am trying to document is the 68 long S shaped tube going into firewall as i am wondering if ford used them up before going to the short straight  69 type tube?

Different connectors 1967-68 vs 1969-70+.

1969-70 are "O" ring style connectors.

Hanging in my shop I counted 4 of the flare fitting 67/68 style S shaped tube and the same amount of the O ring 69/70 S shaped tube.

Went back thru all my small a/c hoses and got 6 S tube o-ring type and  5 short straight tube o-ring type with both type crimps.  So early 69 must have started out with the S tube before the short straight tube and the smooth crimp i think was first before the longer crimping with the lines showing in the crimp because that type is on my late march 70 car thats still with th car.  So is it a vendor or plant or running change on the small hose. The big hose with c9za # all look the same.  Problem is my hoses werent marked on what car they came from.

I didn't mark mine ether . I was not aware of the transition in 69 production so I didn't mark them with info on car they came from. I just thought the straight ones were another strange 70 production difference.

Just a long short but wonder if the change in the small line formed metal tube end has anything to do with the change of the orientation of the connections that were discussed in an earlier thread.

Currently going through pictures to see what I can post for use in the discussion. Like the rest those lines that are out of cars I don't label as to source (where and when the car was built)

I am going to say, Yes! Offset hose started out in the beginning of 1969.

Only have Dearborn cars with the early box and the offset A/C hose at the firewall. My sample size ranges from the beginning of production, until at least, late January. That is 4 cars that have the lines or remnants remaining. All of my 1970 cars have the straight A/C hose.
No straight hoses on early boxes found, nor offset hoses found on late 1969-70 boxes. My samples of 1969 Cougars with remaining hoses are all the early variety and Dearborn. My 1969 San Jose Cougars ceased production about the 4th week November 1968. Zero San Jose samples found intact.

As time permits, I will try and look for ink stamps to narrow the changeover. Not any good boxes remain for sale though.

I've been spending my afternoon going through pictures were the firewall ends were visible and so far came up with only examples with the S or curved ends at that end of the small diameter hoses. Found no unrestored cars with any other versions. Need to graph out the VIN's and build dates to see the how late of examples I have.

Do have service replacements and ones in engine compartment kits boxed in 69 without the S or curved ends.

Other observations while I was looking was the style of crimped fitting for the other end at the sight gauge.

Lastly found non with visible printing of any type especially unrestored cars where the large diameter hoses did have visible markings on the hose.

Will load pictures likely tomorrow
