Topic: 69 A/C air duct clips

Hi guys,
I have a question regarding the connection of the air ducts meeting the outer registers of the lower dashboard. The assembly manual says I need some "S-Clips" but mine are missing . Does someone have a photo how they look like and/or a source where I can get them?

What is the manual name and number, what is the page number in the manual, and what is the part number you seek.

That's a picture of the clip but without the manual you looked at, and without a Ford part number, I have no place to start.

I looked at the assembly manual, page E9-695-11, which has a view discussing the "attachment of clip" but no part number is called out.  This leads me to believe that the clip was part of the more complex assembly.  It does not mean that the clip does not have a part number, most assuredly it does.  However, at the end of the day it was not handled here as a separate identifiable part on the assembly drawing.  What is interesting is that the center rectangular vent does call out the clips for that part.  Some days you get the elevator...

I also looked in the MPC illustration, and nothing there.  At the end of the parts listings in the MPC it is not uncommon to see a list of related fasteners.  Not so in this case.

Then I went to Jim's spreadsheet and filtered on "AIR COND" in the Location-Application column, and "CLIP" in the Description column.  Of the 5 records I see 383116-S which has a Location-Application of "AIR COND DUCT, RH/LH-PLENUM".  Data sources E9-695-7 and E0-695-7.  I'm assuming that data source E9 is the Electrical assembly manual for 1969, sheet 695-7.  Sure enough, that is what it is.  Mind meld alert.  My version of this page is very challenging to read.  Upon further review, this is NOT the part - see attachment.  The 383116 is for the plastic ductwork.

I'm pretty sure it was the Electrical Assembly Manual but I will check it tonight (also if there is a number).
AJ hit the nail, these are exactly what I mean. I believe I have seen one of these on the top ridge of the center register. But where to buy...??

There are a couple of other possibilities:
From the 1975 Ford Car Parts, Text Section 190, pg 12 (also ref pg 13);
1. The service stock numbers, C9ZZ-19B680-B and -C, Ducts, are supplied with attaching parts - the "Clips", although there is usually a statement stating that;
2. The service stock numbers, C9ZZ-19B680-B and -C, Ducts, no longer need the "Clips" (a redesign?), so they are not shown;
Try to attach the hoses without the clips.
If you feel you need the clips, your only option is a donor car.

Hi, I don't frequent this forum much, but I came across this post and thought I would look into it.
I have a 1969 Mercury Cougar built in Dearborn maybe even on the same assembly line!
I looked today at the AC duct clips on a spare lower dash I have. Pulled one of them off and got out my Standard & Utility Parts Catalog (dated Feb '98) but is fairly extensive.
Upon searching thru the various clip images, I came across what I believe is the clip you are seeking. It is also listed as a Non-Standard part, so finding it anywhere might be difficult.
I have attached some pictures of it as well as the catalog information about including size and part number.

Since his signature  lists his 70 Boss as a Dearborn car yes both cars would have been built on the same line in the big car plant only likely on different days or months

Check with Classic Auto Air and Old Air Products. They may have the clips if you can't find them anywhere else.

This Ford hardware part number is listed as shown above, 383116-S.

I believe is the clip you are seeking. It is also listed as a Non-Standard part, so finding it anywhere might be difficult.

The one you reference is Ford Hardware part number 374825-S3. I find no instance of its use in any 64 thru 73 Mustangs. It is not listed in any of the several aftermarket documents I have. I'm not saying it's correct or not, just pointing that out its use is "vague".
However, it is a starting point.

I found some additional "similar" items (see below, "Type 13" - 3 Ford hardware numbers listed, none used on Mustangs). Without actual photographs, including a reference measuring device, there is no real way to identify what this is.
